Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010
The name Barramundi is derieved from an Australian Aboriginal language arouond the area of Rockhampton in Queensland and means "large-scaled river fish". Known in scientific circles as Asian seabass, it is also known as giant perch, giant seaperch, Australian seabass, and by a variety of other names, such as Ikan Siakap or Ikan Kakap Putih.
A great fighting fish and a very highly prized target fish.
Barramundi are a salt and freshwater sportfish, targeted by many. They have large silver scales, which may become darker or lighter, depending on their environment. Their bodies can reach up to 1.8 meters long, though evidence of them being caught at this size is scarce.
Many a visitor of ours has gone home very happy after successfully landing one of these brutes.
