An affectionate nickname for a “Diagramma pictum” the painted sweetlip. A sought after target for fly fishermen as the sometimes tail in shallow water and grub along in the sand looking for small crustaceans. They are quite a large foraging species that prove a sometimes difficult quarry for the flyfisherman hence the name “blue bastard”
